Analysis of the effectiveness of a treatment of an individual case with dysorthography and dyslexia alongside deficits in phonological working memory

Mariangela Wilma Giarrizzo

This study intends to document the treatment experience of a child with a diagnosis of specific spelling disorder and specific reading disorder, alongside deficits in phonological working memory, with the aim of offering a contribution to research on the efficacy of rehabilitation treatments for subjects with dysorthography and dyslexia. From the comparison of performances before the interventions, at their conclusion and at follow-up, a significant change emerged. Moreover, the evaluations expressed by the child, his parents and his teachers documented the «clinical improvement» (Tressoldi and Vio, 2008a) observed with regard to self-perception, motivation to learn and school behaviour, demonstrating the impact that an efficacious treatment can have even on the well-being of its beneficiary.
