Lexical treatment of a case of dyslexia: Evidence of effectiveness
Mariangela Wilma Giarrizzo
The following study documents a lexical treatment experience designed for a child diagnosed with a specific reading disorder. The goal is to provide research on the efficacy of rehabilitation treatments for subjects with dyslexia. A comparison of performances, before, at the end of and in follow-up to the treatment, show a significant change in accuracy and speed parameters, which along with findings expressed by the child, his teachers and parents, demonstrate the «clinical improvement» (Tressoldi and Vio, 2008) sought and, in fact, achieved by the rehabilitation project. Moreover, the changes seen in motivation to learn, scholastic adaptation and self-esteem, and in family relationships and emotional and social areas document the indirect benefits of the treatment on the psychosocial well-being of its beneficiary.
