Covid-19 pandemic, work and careers
Guido Sarchielli
Psychologists’ involvement in personal and social issues induced by the Covid-19 pandemic has been rapid and very broad and has highlighted negative interferences on how to imagine and design careers. We are dealing with a professional shock that affects attitudes towards work and meanings of work, and one that requires competences to reinterpret the situation and redefine long-term goals of personal life. Such trends also lead to a significant change in career counseling practices, which are no longer aimed solely at enhancing professional skills and optimizing choices but at acquiring resources and increasing protective factors to build a sustainable career and develop resilience to crises that may arise during professional life.
