PEP-3 Validity in Evaluating Linguistic and Cognitive Abilities in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Sharon Tiana, Roberta Fadda

PEP-3 (Psychoeducational Profile – 3rd edition) is a tool used to evaluate different domains of functioning in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This tool has been used since 1979. In the meantime, it has been revised numerous times. The objective of this paper is to verify whether PEP-3 might be still considered a valuable tool to assess the competencies of individuals with ASD. To achieve this goal, a series of studies investigating the validity of PEP-3 as a tool to assess language and cognition in individuals with ASD were analysed. The results of this analysis will be discussed in light of its possible uses in different educational settings.
