Being Parents of Children and Adolescents with SLD and ADHD

Michele Margheriti

The article explores the challenges and opportunities for parents of children and adolescents with ADHD and SLD in the digital age. It examines the difficulties related to excessive use of digital devices, such as gaming and smartphones, in children with ADHD, focusing on the educational and family-related issues. The tension between permissive and punitive educational approaches is discussed, highlighting the need to find a balance. The lack of proper digital education in schools is also emphasized, leading to potential isolation or technological abuse. Additionally, the article discusses the benefits of digital compensatory programmes for children with SLD, although their integration into teaching practices is often insufficient. The issue of over-certification of disorders is addressed, with a rise in SLD diagnoses, pointing out the difficulty in interpreting behavioural data without a proper diagnostic-therapeutic pathway. The article concludes with a call for a renewal of school teaching methods and a greater focus on personalized educational paths, so that technology can truly support inclusion and learning for students with neurodiversity.
