The Role of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Therapist in childhood and adolescence

In the field of mental health in recent years, there has been an intensification of the debate on the specific competences and intervention areas characteristic of the psychiatric rehabilitation technician. This has determined the importance of highlighting the core competences of this profession, which are fundamental for the purposes of functional cooperation between professionals in a team, for a multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial and recovery-oriented approach. In this article we focus on the role of the PRT within a multidisciplinary team in referrals of children and adolescents, highlighting their contribution not only in the implementation of specific rehabilitation interventions but also in the initial assessment process and monitoring of outcomes. The main evidence-based psychiatric rehabilitation interventions in childhood and adolescence are described, making a distinction between interventions with a top-down approach and those with a bottom-up approach, focusing on the importance of having a 360-degree view of the young user. This must take into account the psychophysical unity of the individual and, therefore, the need to work through these approaches in dual directions «from mind to body and from body to mind».
