The Case Of R.
Elena Concini
The present study describes a treatment focused on the comprehension of two-argument reversible sentences and nominal morphology, conducted with an 8-year-old child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability and mixed language disorder. After analysis of the cognitive and linguistic functional profile, the intervention was implemented using a word-action procedure (using real objects). The results show significant improvements in the areas directly treated (syntactic and morphological comprehension) and a positive and significant change in syntactic production, an area not directly treated. However, the correlation with morphological production was found to be non-significant. At the same time, following a cognitive-behavioural approach, psychological therapy was conducted with the child’s mother, which highlighted improvements in psychological status and in managing the child’s behaviour.
