La valutazione delle abilità narrative tramite Frog Story. Proposta di una nuova codifica complessa e dati preliminari in soggetti a sviluppo tipico (6-13 anni) e soggetti clinici

Mestucci Cecilia, Padovani Roberto

The study presents two experiments on the assessment of children’s narrative skills using the classic picture book Frog, where are you? A coding procedure was applied to investigate three different narrative levels: story grammar, local linguistic competence and pragmatic mechanisms. Typically developing children (n = 53) with different levels of education (1 vs. 3 vs. 5 vs. 7) were involved in the first study whereas children with specific language impairment (SLI, n = 16) with a similar age-range participated in the second experiment. Results for typically developing children showed a significant increase between class 1 and class 3 for all the story grammar parameters and for the total number of secondary clauses; speech rate increased with a more linear trend across all different classes. The comparison between typical and clinical children revealed significant problems for SLI children within each narrative level (story grammar, linguistic competence and pragmatic style).
