The servant of two masters

Diego Di Masi

The ad personam educational assistance, introduced by Law 104/92, is a service designed to promote inclusion of the students with disabilities. Despite its relevance, it has in large part been neglected in the scientific and public debate on inclusion. This paper reports part of a broader research conducted on behalf of the Municipality of Sondrio to implement educational assistance. The first part describes the service as defined by current legislation. The second part introduces the paradigm of the Activity Theory, the approach used to read the processes and relationships defining the assistance system in the Municipality of Sondrio. The article closes with an analysis of the service in the light of the Theory of Activity model, assuming the perspective of educators engaged in the ad personam educational assistance.
