In France, the Federation of Trisomie 21 associations brings together people with Down syndrome or intellectual disabilities, their families and the people who support them, including professionals in the education and social healthcare fields. Among the various projects promoted by the Trisomie 21 Federation is the project «C’est ma vie! Je la choisis» («It is my life, I’ll choose it») aimed at promoting the self-determination of people with Down syndrome. We decided to give this title to the project because in its preamble, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities states that people with disabilities should have the freedom to make their own choices. Furthermore, the French law of 2005 considers the life plan to be the key to promoting the development processes of disabled people. In light of this, the Trisomie 21 Federation has started a collaboration with researchers from the Universities of Bordeaux and Mons to develop a digital tool aimed at developing self-determination through the drafting and implementation of life plans for people with Down syndrome and with intellectual disabilities.
