The ClearCloud Project: Assistive Technology solutions in cloud computing
Davide Mulfari
The ClearCloud project takes advantage of the impact of new information technologies based on the paradigm of cloud computing in order to extend and develop currently existing and widely used Assistive Technology software solutions for desktops (like for example screen readers or facilitated access tools) that disabled users can use to access their personal computers. The project proposes the use of remote virtual machines that enable the entire desktop environment, from the operating system to applications, including personalised accessibility tools, which disabled users are used to having on their PCs at home or at work, to be used on the move. Using remote desktop web-based technologies and any computer that is connected to the internet and has a current web browser installed, users can easily access their desktop environments. In order to provide the aforementioned services, this project proposes the development of an open source software infrastructure comprising well-known components from the world of cloud computing.
