Dyslexia and music: From shared mechanisms to treatments

This paper aims to present the main contributions regarding the relationship between developmental dyslexia and music. In recent years, the attention of several authors has focused on the investigation of the relationship between reading and musical skills by assuming the existence of shared mechanisms underlying reading and musical processing. Studies conducted have highlighted that music can improve the acquisition of reading skills. This perspective has paved the way towards new rehabilitative treatments. The enhancement of skills involved in both analysis and production of musical stimuli can reduce reading impairments while increasing the level of subjects’ engagement in treatment.
