Devoloping Visuo-Perception: Fluent reading
In this article the authors present a software program that aims to reinforce the visuo-perceptual skills involved in decoding processes. Our therapists, working with a large range of SLD, work not only on phonology, but also on strengthening visuo-perceptual aspects. With this method, global improvements were seen over time in patient performance and in increased reading automation. This enhancement proved fundamental, in particular, for subjects who, at the basis of their Specific Disorder, show visuo-perceptual deficiencies, detected through diagnostic analysis. Therefore, over the years, specific activities have been developed that have brought those treated for SLD to acquire better visual sensitivity and to integrate it with phonology. These rehabilitative proposals have been merged and organised in the software program Enhancing Visuo-Perception: fluent reading.
