Study of the Effectiveness of a Multifactorial Treatment of a Single Case with Dyscalculia and Working Memory Deficit

Mariangela Wilma Giarrizzo

The present study intends to document a multifactorial treatment experience aimed at a child attending the first class of lower secondary school with diagnosis of Specific disorder of arithmetic skills, accompanied by phonological and visuo-spatial working memory deficits, in order to offer a contribution within research on the efficacy of rehabilitation treatments for subjects with dyscalculia. From the comparison of performances before interventions, at their conclusion and at follow-up a significant improvement emerged in relation to accuracy and speed parameters. Moreover, the evaluations expressed by the child and by his parents have documented important changes found in self-perception, in motivation to learn and in overall scholastic success, alongside notable changes even in emotional and social areas, demonstrating the impact that an efficacious treatment can have on the psychosocial well-being of its beneficiary.
