The FEREA training: executive functions relationships emotions environment

Gian Marco Marzocchi, Elena Bongarzone, Silvia Conti

Executive Functions include a coordinated set of cognitive processes that allow the self-regulation of behaviour and emotions. The FEREA training is an original and innovative approach that includes 10 sessions with the child, who is between 5 and 12 years old, 5 sessions with parents and 4 sessions with teachers, in small groups in an online format. Training with the child includes motivating and play-based exercises to stimulate inhibitory control, working memory and flexibility. Sessions with parents stimulate positive parenting, while with teachers how to manage attention and behavioural difficulties in children is discussed. The effectiveness of the training was assessed via a questionnaire for Executive Functions, QUFE, filled in by teachers and parents (pre vs. post). Preliminary results indicate that parents observe positive changes, while teachers see less noticeable changes.
