Self culture. Digital self, onlife and social futures4
Pasquale Gallo, Teresa Iona
The Digital Age (Benanti, 2020) is a new era for human history. They change the way of being in the world according to the presence of devices, increasingly at the forefront, which seem to govern the action of post-modern man. The identity also undergoes considerable changes, if not adequately supported by conscious and solid educational actions. Just think of the hyper connection and the phenomena of distorted use of new digital technologies that lead to sexting phenomena, hate speeching, cyberbullying or the rampant hikikomori problem. The digital revolution (Elliott, 2021) is directly linked to the functioning of identity that, often, online transforms and undergoes irremediable changes. Selfie culture seems to have taken the place of self culture, that is the unceasing, typically human need to structure the culture of self online and onlife. Moving from selfie to self culture means crossing the complex universe of emotional awareness, a path to be structured in an educational — formal, Non-formal and informal — to ensure the construction of a solid identity, even virtual, in the perspective of lifelong learning and lifewide learning. Careful planning, both pedagogical and andragogical, can certainly encourage forms of guidance to educate people to the conscious use of digital as a new sense of human existence.
