Language impairments in children with autism spectrum disorders are common and may affect both the expressive and the receptive language level. However, the knowledge of these disorders is still limited, especially regarding the receptive side. In our review, we tried to analyse what is present in literature about language comprehension in preschoolers with autism spectrum disorders, differentiating between grammatical, lexical, verbal-contextual, question and narrative comprehension. The review found that most articles make a general analysis of receptive language skills, and do not specifically analyse sub-components. Therefore, we identified many articles that evaluate general language comprehension. Furthermore, many studies appear to be heterogeneous in terms of analysis and results, which are hard to summarise in a homogeneous way for this specific reason.
