Gambling Disorder, Emotional Dysregulation, and Metacognitive Functioning
Guyonne Rogier, Patrizia Velotti
Gambling disorder is a complex psychological condition, often diagnosed using self-report questionnaires like the South Oaks Gambling Screen. However, the evolution of diagnostic criteria with the DSM-5 has highlighted the need for more up-to-date tools that can capture awareness of the disorder and related psychological variables. This study explores the link between metacognition, assessed with the Psychiatric Illness Interview for Gambling Addiction, and emotional dysregulation in gambling disorder. The research makes a significant contribution to a deeper understanding of gambling disorder and the metacognitive and regulatory dynamics underlying the disorder, proposing the use of the Psychiatric Illness Interview for Gambling Addiction for a more effective assessment procedure and suggesting that an integrated clinical approach could offer better tools for assessing and managing the disorder.
