The use of Biofeedback in treating chronic pain
Giuseppe Sacco, Alessandra Gubbiotti, Francesca Orsini
In this paper we present a definition of the widespread problem of chronic pain and the contribution
of Biofeedback procedures to the improvement of its clinical conditions, with brief reference to some
explanatory models. Subsequently, an up-to-date review of Biofeedback’s various clinical treatment
applications is performed based on the Efficiency Criteria of the International Guidelines proposed
by the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback for the treatment of chronic pain.
Biofeedback results in a range of «specific efficacy» to one of «possible efficacy» for most of the
clinical pathologies considered.
