Cognitive behavioural psychotherapy and the systemic-relational approach: An example of integration
Maria Giuseppina Canevisio, Monica Gatti
Nowadays in clinical practice therapists encounter situations which are increasingly complex and
which put them in a position where they have to expand their vision and their tools. No therapeutic
approach, in fact, is exhaustive in treating all the types of pain and emotional distress patients suffer.
Collaboration between colleagues from different orientations and integration of visions and methods
pertaining to other models within their own practice is therefore desirable.
This paper represents an example of this cooperation and integration, through the illustration of a
case study on the conceptualisation and treatment of a panic disorder connected to a relationship
disturbance rooted in the family context.
