Cognitive couple therapy is implemented through various models, all of which emphasize the importance of shared case conceptualization. The LIBET model proposes a conceptualization that integrates developmental factors, personal vulnerabilities, semi-adaptive plans, and meta-control processes responsible for rigidity in functioning. The study involved 16 couples who underwent an initial assessment including the LIBET-Questionnaire. Results indicated a higher presence of themes of unlovability in conjunction with experiences of unlovability or threat, with the prescriptive plan being more prominently represented. The Interference/Irrelevance and Painfulness/Unpleasantness scales were correlated with perceived distress. Using an instrument that assesses the functioning of both partners facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the overall problem, minimizing the risk of focusing on isolated issues. Although assessment procedures require further refinement, the LIBET model appears to be a promising tool during the conceptualization phase, supporting the shared understanding of dyadic functioning and treatment formulation.
