Swallowing and nutrition in parkinsonian syndromes. Proposal for a joint SLT-nutritionist approach

In parkinsonian syndromes swallowing and nutrition dysfunctions cause several complications in the whole healing process. We are proposing an approach based on the precautionary evaluation of possible deficiencies. We analysed data from 26 patients with primary parkinsonisms, evaluating both fields, irrespective of the stage of illness and overt presence of dysphagia or malnutrition. Results: age 64±11; disease duration 7±4; H&Y 2.5±0.4; SDQ 34.6% failed; V-VST 26.9% failed; NDPCS 3.1±3.6; DOSS
