Ankyloglossia, a congenital anomaly of the lingual frenulum which is characterised by the shortness of the same, can limit tongue mobility, which in new-born babies can cause difficulty swallowing during breast-feeding and lead to speech and articulation disorders later on. The surgical approach, followed by post-operative speech therapy, leads to satisfactory recovery rates. This study aims to report our surgical experience of frenectomy using «Z-plasty» in a group of 29 children diagnosed with ankyloglossia. All the patients operated on carried out a course of speech therapy with significant functional improvement, with no post-operative complications.
