Cristina Flosi, Alessandra Franco
Reception is a fundamental purpose of health workers since it aims to establish a cooperative and confidential collaboration between the helper and the patient within a supportive relationship. Inside a rehabilitation setting, reception permits to share the rehabilitation project that arises from the needs of patients and their relatives, starting from their helping and information needs. For people with aphasia, reception is a very difficult situation. The following project refers to the creation of an information brochure conceived to simplify the reception of patients with severe aphasia post-stroke in acute-care hospital. The brochure is made with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) aids. Eight participants with severe aphasia and 6 groups of family members were enrolled in trial. Results underline the benefit of a support with augmented input for the reception of people with severe aphasia and their relatives in acute-care hospital.
