Rehabilitation Interventions for Awareness Deficits After Stroke

Patrizia Consolmagno, Cristina Flosi

Post-stroke awareness deficits are indicators of the subjective well-being and functional status of a person and therefore play a critical role in contributing to the rehabilitation outcome and to the global and independent functioning of the subjects. Consequently, the treatment of these deficits has become an integral component of several rehabilitation programmes and many general interventions. Nevertheless, to date only few studies have systematically investigated the efficacy of the strategies and of targeted rehabilitation interventions aimed to enhance the awareness of deficits. The aim of the current study is to review the available literature in order to identify specific rehabilitation interventions for adults with acquired brain injury that have been validated and therefore have implemented rigorous systematic methods according to the requisites for evidence-based medicine (EBM) and evidence-based practice (EBP).
