Evaluating Lexical Comprehension in Preschool Children: A Comparison between BVL_4-12 and PPVT-R

Andrea Marini, Francesca Segat, Alessandra Muratori

This study explores the efficacy of the Lexical Comprehension Task for children aged 4 to 6 years old of the Batteria per la Valutazione del Linguaggio in Bambini dai 4 ai 12 anni (BVL_4-12; Marini et al., 2015). Namely, the performance of a cohort of 20 4-year-old children was compared to that observed by administering the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test – Revised (PPVT-R; Dunn & Dunn, 1981, Italian version by Stella, Pizzoli & Tressoldi, 2001). Importantly, the former is much quicker to administer and easier to interpret than the PPVT-R. The results showed the presence of a significant correlation between the two tasks.
