Language Disorders From a Lifespan Perspective

Luigi Marotta

Language disorders represent a set of complex and varied conditions involving both comprehension and language production. They are problems that can emerge at any stage of life and have heterogeneous manifestations, influenced by biological, environmental and social factors (Leonard, 2014). Adopting a lifespan perspective allows one to consider language disorders as a dynamic phenomenon, which changes over time in relation to the experiences and challenges of each life stage. This approach is crucial for developing targeted interventions and ensuring adequate support for people living with such difficulties (ASHA, 2021; WHO, 2022).
