Telerehabilitation in Primary Language Disorders during the Covid-19 Health Crisis
Rachele Tartaglia, Francesca Moschetta, Marco Esposito
The recent global health crisis has accelerated the spread of telerehabilitation, although little evidence has been gathered about the factors shaping the caregivers’ perception of such practice. The present study aimed to explore the opinion on telerehabilitation of parents whose children were diagnosed with a developmental language disorder, independently of actual treatment efficacy. A close-ended questionnaire on different response scales was administered to 31 families that took part in telerehabilitation over the lockdown period in 2020. Ordinal logistic regression was implemented to analyse the collected data. The main findings revealed that parents’ perceived effectiveness and overall assessment of telerehabilitation were influenced by the treatment duration and the type of diagnosis, but not by their initial expectations. These results provide useful information for future planning and implementation of telerehabilitation within the clinical settings of speech and language therapy.
