Terrorismo, paure, pregiudizi: una riflessione interculturale – Terrorism, fears and prejudices: an intercultural reflection

As written by Marc Augé (2013), «The contemporary world is meeting us with a real tangle of fear». Immersed in the news about the recent and ongoing dramatic events that have occurred before, during and after 2015 in Paris and other places in Europe and in the world in general, there is an emerging global need to understand and debate on these issues on an interdisciplinary and intercultural level. We need to try to understand what has happened, what is happening, and what is changing, in order to know how to deal with the fear of terrorism and how to avoid the traps of prejudice that otherwise tend to lead to stereotyping by letting those who have committed violence representing all the people who share the similar traits. As educators, we therefore have the responsibility to ask ourselves how the pedagogical reflection and the educational practices, especially in their intercultural declination, can contribute in concrete educational contexts that address issues from an overall view, but which also, at the same time, deals with each and one of them per se. Keywords: fears, prejudice, terrorism, intercultural education.
